Who is SOPHIE?

Sophie Xeon, popularly known as SOPHIE, was an extraordinary artist and producer who transformed our perception of sound, identity, and self-expression. Sophie, who was born on September 17, 1986, in Glasgow, Scotland, developed a strong love for music from a young age. As a child, she developed a fascination for electronic sounds by experimenting with synthesizers and dreaming of creating something genuinely unique.

Sophie became well-known in the 2010s with tracks such as *Bipp* and *Lemonade,* tunes that appeared to be extracted directly from the future—vibrant, bold, and completely original. Her ability to mix edgy, synthetic sounds with authentic feelings positioned her as a pioneer in what would eventually be known as hyperpop. Nonetheless, Sophie’s influence extended beyond challenging musical limits; she also cleared a path for others. As a transgender woman, Sophie emerged as a potent symbol of hope and strength in the LGBTQ+ community, representing the beauty of embracing one’s authentic self.

In 2018, Sophie launched *Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides,* an album that surpassed mere music to become a profound experience. Through its mesmerisingly beautiful and innovative sounds, Sophie explored themes of love, personal growth, and change. The album received a Grammy nomination and established her status as a visionary. Alongside her individual projects, Sophie worked with artists like Charli XCX, Madonna, and Vince Staples, consistently imbuing her signature flair of creativity and originality.

Sophie’s life ended tragically on January 30, 2021, due to an accident in Athens, Greece, when she was 34 years old. Even with her short time on earth, Sophie’s impact has only increased. Her artistry and legacy continue to inspire, reminding us that creativity knows no limits and that accepting your true self is among the most impactful things one can do.
